Short answer: At your current registrar, set the domain’s name servers to dns1.yournameservers.net and dns2.yournameservers.net. If the domain was registered through us as your free domain, we configure it for you and there is nothing to do.
Applies to: Infosaic web hosting · pointing an existing domain at your hosting
Pointing a domain and transferring a domain are different things, and it is worth being clear which one you want. Pointing tells the internet where your website lives; the domain stays with whoever you registered it with. Transferring moves the registration itself to us. You can point without transferring, and most people do at first.
If you registered the domain through us

Nothing to do. If the domain came with your hosting as the free domain, we configure it for you as part of setting up the account.
If you later want to change DNS records yourself — adding a subdomain, changing MX records for email — those live at mydomain.infosaic.com.
If the domain is registered elsewhere
You have two ways to point it, and name servers is almost always the one you want.
Option 1: point the name servers (recommended)
- Sign in at the registrar where the domain is registered.
- Find the name server settings — usually under DNS, Name Servers, or Domain Settings.
- Replace the existing name servers with:
dns1.yournameservers.net
dns2.yournameservers.net - Save. Allow time for the change to propagate — usually minutes rather than the day or two it used to take.
This hands DNS to us, so your website and your email both follow automatically and you do not have to maintain records in two places.
Option 2: IP pointing
Instead of handing over the name servers, you can point an A record at the IP address assigned to your account. We provide the IP once it has been allocated.
Use this when you have a reason to keep DNS where it is — for example, other services already running on records you manage at that registrar. It is more work to maintain, because every future change stays your responsibility.
If you are also transferring the domain to us

A transfer takes 1–7 business days. You do not have to wait for it to finish before your site goes live — there are two sensible approaches:
- Point it now. Change the name servers straight away while the transfer runs in the background. Your site is live within minutes and the transfer completes underneath it.
- Wait, and use the temporary address. We configure the domain once the transfer completes, and in the meantime you use the alternative address we provide to reach and test your web space.
The first option is usually better if the site is already built. The second is fine if you are still working on it.
Upload your site before you point the domain. Otherwise visitors arrive at an empty web space the moment DNS updates. Use the temporary address or the IP to upload and check everything first, then point.
If it does not seem to work
- Give it a little longer. Propagation is usually quick now, but not instant everywhere at once.
- Your own computer may be caching the old answer. Try the site on a phone using mobile data — a different network, different cache.
- Check both name servers saved. Some registrars silently keep the old entries if one field is left blank.
- Check you edited the right domain, if you hold several at that registrar.
Questions and answers
What are Infosaic’s name servers?
dns1.yournameservers.net and dns2.yournameservers.net. Set both at your registrar.
Do I have to transfer my domain to host with you?
No. Pointing the name servers is enough. The registration can stay wherever it is.
What is the difference between pointing and transferring?
Pointing tells the internet where your site lives. Transferring moves the registration itself to us. They are independent.
How long does it take to take effect?
Usually a few minutes. It used to take 24 to 48 hours, but that is rarely the case now.
Should I use name servers or IP pointing?
Name servers, unless you have a specific reason to keep DNS at your registrar. It is less to maintain and email follows automatically.
Can I point the domain while a transfer is in progress?
Yes, and it is often the better choice. The site goes live straight away and the transfer completes in the background.
My domain came free with hosting. What do I do?
Nothing. We configure it for you when the account is set up.
The site still shows the old host.
Check the site on a phone over mobile data. If it works there, your own computer or network is caching the previous DNS answer.
