Short answer: On shared hosting, the mail server is mail.infosaic.com — the same name for incoming and outgoing, POP3, IMAP and SMTP. On a VPS or dedicated server running SmarterMail, it is mail.yourdomain.com instead.
Applies to: Infosaic web hosting · VPS and dedicated servers · any mail client
Every mail program asks for a server name twice — once for receiving and once for sending — and the boxes are usually far enough apart that people assume they must be different. On shared hosting they are not. The same name goes in both.
Shared hosting customers

Use mail.infosaic.com for all three roles:
- Incoming mail server (POP3) — mail.infosaic.com
- Incoming mail server (IMAP) — mail.infosaic.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP) — mail.infosaic.com
Webmail is separate and lives at webmail.infosaic.com. That is a web page you sign in to, not a server name to type into a mail program — a distinction worth keeping straight, because putting the webmail address in the server box is a common slip.
VPS and dedicated hosting customers

SmarterMail can be installed on your own server. If it is, your mail server name is based on your own domain rather than ours:
mail.yourdomain.com
Substitute your actual domain. The same name again covers POP3, IMAP and SMTP.
If you are on a VPS and not sure whether SmarterMail is installed, open a support ticket and ask — it depends on how your server was built, and guessing wastes an afternoon.
The server name is rarely the problem. If mail will not work, the cause is usually one of the other three settings: your username must be the full email address, outgoing authentication must be switched on, and the ports must match the connection type. See configuring email on your device.
The rest of the settings
Once you have the server name, you need four more things:
- Username — your entire email address, not just the part before the @
- Password — as set for that mailbox
- Outgoing authentication — on, always
- Ports — with SSL: SMTP 465, POP3 995, IMAP 993. Without SSL, outgoing uses port 25 or the alternative 8383
Questions and answers
What is the mail server name for Infosaic hosting?
mail.infosaic.com on shared hosting, used for incoming and outgoing mail alike. On a VPS or dedicated server running SmarterMail it is mail.yourdomain.com.
Is the incoming server different from the outgoing server?
No. The same name goes in both boxes.
Is it different for POP3 and IMAP?
No. One server name covers POP3, IMAP and SMTP.
Should I use webmail.infosaic.com as my server name?
No. That is the address of the webmail website you sign in to in a browser. The server name for a mail program is mail.infosaic.com.
What do I use on a VPS?
mail.yourdomain.com, with your own domain substituted, if SmarterMail is installed on that server. Ask support if you are not sure whether it is.
Which ports go with it?
With SSL: SMTP 465, POP3 995, IMAP 993. Without SSL, outgoing mail uses port 25 or the alternative 8383.
I have the right server name and it still will not work.
Check the username is the full email address and that outgoing authentication is enabled. Those two account for most failures.
How can I test the account without a mail program?
Sign in at webmail.infosaic.com with the same address and password. If that works, the mailbox is fine and the fault is in your client settings.
